It's a time of joy and happiness in Midsomer for once - Christmas is coming, and DCI Barnaby and his wife Sarah are soon to become parents. But the festive mood changes when a man is stabbed to death with an antique sword during a ghost-hunting party at a spooky manor house in Morton Shallows. Local historian Brendan Pearce thinks blacksmith's daughter Rose Wilton is seeking revenge from beyond the grave, but Barnaby and sidekick Charlie Nelson try to find a more earthly motive behind the murder.
