Part one of two. The legend of the Trojan War, a conflict between the ancient Greeks and the city of Troy, sparked by the abduction of Helen of Sparta by the Trojan prince Paris. In 1874, Heinrich Schliemann announced he had found Troy, setting in motion a golden age of archaeology where a lost Bronze Age world was also rediscovered. Since then, many archaeologists have challenged his claims, but in every generation new findings have kept the search for the city alive. This documentary brings the search up to date drawing upon 21st-century science and archaeology to pinpoint its location
