About Nick Bain

Nick Bain is a London-based screenwriter, producer, and author whose career has taken him from the newsrooms of Edinburgh to film sets spanning four continents. Originally from Scotland, he brings a journalist's eye for detail and a storyteller's instinct for drama to everything he writes.

From Newsroom to Stage to Screen

Nick's career began on the foreign desk of The Scotsman, where he honed his skills covering international affairs. The transition to creative writing came through theatre - his 2007 Edinburgh Festival satire Prints of Denmark earned an Amnesty International Freedom of Expression Award nomination and transferred to London's West End.

The move into screen came via animation, starting at Indian studio Kahani World in 2008. From there, Nick carved out a distinctive niche as an international commission writer, with projects spanning Lagos, Cape Town, Lebanon, Libya, Russia, and China.

Major Credits

Nick's breakthrough feature screenplay credit came with the UK thriller The List (2014), which secured him LA representation. He went on to serve as Associate Producer on The Man Who Knew Infinity, starring Dev Patel and Jeremy Irons.

Perhaps his most notable screen credit is Jagame Thandhiram (2021), the Tamil-London gangster crossover film starring Dhanush. Netflix acquired the film for a regional record fee, and it reached #1 in eight countries - a remarkable achievement for a genre-bending international production.

Industry Leadership

Beyond writing, Nick co-founded Behind the Billboards, an international content development company. He has served on a Studio Advisory Board alongside former executives from HBO, Netflix, and Legendary Entertainment, giving him unique insight into how the industry operates at the highest levels.

He currently works with Pickering Animation Studios and has several projects in development, including a German Film Federation-funded feature and a series adaptation of Richard Zimler's acclaimed novel Strawberry Fields Forever.

Writing Style

Nick's journalism background gives his entertainment writing a distinctive edge. He understands both the creative and commercial sides of the industry, bringing insider knowledge to his analysis of what's worth watching. His international experience means he's equally comfortable covering British drama, Bollywood blockbusters, or independent animation.

He's also an acclaimed creative writing teacher, helping novelists and screenwriters develop their craft and secure representation from top-tier agents and publishers.
